The manufactures some times state where each kind of pipe should be used depending o the local building code and the stove which may be general or a specific kind of fuel. According to the UL standards the specifications for the pipe make it safe for use thus the need to follow the precise listing.
A chimney pipe is installed in a stove approximately 18 inches from any combustible material. They cannot be used to penetrate walls, roofs or ceilings. The chimney pipe is installed by running it through a ceiling box via an attic all the way to the rain cap in a vertical installation.
For a horizontal installation of a chimney pipe a wall box will come in handy and the ventilation pipe will be placed to go through the wall all the way to the rain cap of the building. It is good to have in mind that warranties given by manufactures will not stand if the installation of the chimney pipe is not done by a licensed contractor or a chimney pipe professional.
